| My computer is much to horrible to download a large file, so I just stream. The loss of quality isn't as bad as people make it out to be either. | |

| I don't ruin anything, sometimes they even get more money out of this. But yea download, the lost of quality is noticeable on the most of the newer animes. | |

| It slightly hurts their economy. I'm talkin about OUR (US) Economy! Naruto is quite popular, even though people may not watch televised episodes, they still get their profits with all the merchandise of Action figures and trading card/video games.
The reason why other countries import shows from other countries is that they think it is a popular show, to get higher ratings. If you don't watch their channel, then they get lower ratings. Nobody wants to advertise on shows with low ratings, so they lose money. The products that should be advertised sell less because less people are aware that the product exists.
In summary, there is no flow of currency at all, thus the effort and time has gone to waste. Time = Money, thus the money has gone to waste. That is why Free things are bad.

| Most of the anime that is in the US is suck so we depend on fan subs. If anything fan subs help japan's economy. As for the US, there are tons of people who hate subs and watch dubs. For whatever reason in a interview the production companies in the US the sales are going up. Don't forget that they also put anime on youtube too. | |

| Yeah, it's a mixed bag in terms of who enjoys subs or dubs, who pirates or watches on t.v., etc. However in the long run it's not anime that's gonna mess up our economy. When Obama listed the 7 main issues of our nation I don't believe "the pirating of anime" was involved. | |

| You could only "hurt our ecconomy" by pirating the anime we already have on TV/can be bought on DVD.Thing is I don't want to watch those, so I'll pirate the anime when there is NO other way of watching it. What's the problem in that? | |

| with all budgets there are expected deficits. an expected amount of stolen/lost goods/profit. companies that put out television shows take piracy into account.
this is the 21st century. you may not believe it but they DO know the internet exists. people have been pirating for years, it only increases publicity virally.
as for japanese anime companies, the western pirates are like a godsend for them. think of how anime has affected the americas over the past decade.
piracy really doesn't have that large of an effect on the economy as you say. at least not in terms of anime. there's a reason sites like thepiratebay.org have advertisements planted all over them.

| ^^^^ he hit the nail. People like steel and I buy gundam models for a pretty high price, how much do you think it cost them to make pieces of plasic? 90% of the income they make don't come from dvd's, it comes from the models, action figures, and other crap we buy because we like the anime. | |
