PostSubject: Yet another Team by Cykid [OU RMT]   Fri Aug 06, 2010 5:59 am

I know I've been posting teams recently, but I'm sure this will be the last one I post. I will be focusing on this team more often, so I will just use the ideas given and update my team.

Anyways, let's go on to the main topic...

~Building Process~
So first I decided to make a team based around a Pokemon. First I picked 4 Pokemon: Celebi, Jirachi, Suicune and Heracross. After looking at their pros and cons, I decided to go with Jirachi anyways.

Now I have to cover Jirachi's weakness. Jirachi is weak to Fire and Ground. I need something to cover them up. I first chose Rotom-H, but then I remembered Heatran. Heatran can be switched in and take a WOW, and Heatran has access to Earth Power too, so if Rotom-H is dead, I'm dead too. However, Heatran is 4x weak to Ground, so the only Pokemon in OU that can counter Heatran quite nicely is Swampert(At least, in my opinion).

OK, Swampert is 4x weak to Grass. Jirachi could counter Swampert's Grass weakness with Fire Punch, but since this team is based on Jirachi, I need another Pokemon to take Grass hits, preferably a Pokemon that has 4x resistance to Grass. So I chose 4 Pokemon: Heatran, Skarmory, Blissey and Forretress. Why Blissey? Swampert is sort of a Physical wall while Blissey is a Special wall. I could use both of them. The problem is, I need someone who can set up more entry hazards as Blissey can't stay long if I encountered Physical Attackers. So I decided to use the infamous "SkarmBliss". By the way, I could use Skarmory to Whirlwind/Roar Pokemon like Suicune from setting up.

Now looking at my team, I found out that I have to counter Fighting types such as Infernape. Reason? Skarmory and Swampert could die to Infernape's Flamethrower and Grass Knot respectively. So I got to find a Pokemon that has decent Special Defense and Defense, as well as a move that hits Infernape super effectively. So I chose 3 Pokemon: Togekiss, Azelf and Cresselia. Togekiss is slower and may be OHKO'ed by Stone Edge. Azelf can OHKO Infernape if Infernape is not Scarfed and that the opponent doesn't switches. However, if the opponent does switch, especially to Pursuiters, Azelf is dead. Also Azelf is pretty fast to be taken out when it gets hit by SR upon switching in. So in the end, I chose Cresselia.

Holy crap! I have no lead! That's it, time to choose a lead. Spikes and SR could be set up by Skarmory and Blissey, so I don't have to worry about that. Looking at my team now, I have 2 walls and 1 sort-of wall. So I need another Sweeper. Since I need a lead, a good lead sweeper. So now, Infernape VS Machamp. I go with Machamp anyways.

~My Team~

Machamp (M) @ Lum Berry
Trait: No Guard
EVs: 240 HP / 248 Atk / 4 Spd / 16 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- DynamicPunch
- Bullet Punch
- Payback
- Ice Punch
Pretty straightforward. DynamicPunch as STAB as well as inducing confusion. Bullet Punch to finish off Focus Sash, Payback for Ghost types and Ice Punch for flying types.

Swampert (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
EVs:
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Waterfall
- Avalanche
- Rest
- Curse
Fooling opponents I have SR is fun. So first I use Curse to increase Swampert's already good Atk and Def. Then, I keep on Cursing if the opponent allowed me to. Waterfall as STAB. Avalance to kill off any unsuspecting Dragon-types as well as Grass types.

Skarmory (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Keen Eye
EVs: 252 HP / 64 Atk / 176 Def / 16 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Spikes
- Whirlwind

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Seismic Toss
- Flamethrower
- Stealth Rock
- Softboiled

Here we have, the infamous "SkarmBliss". You might note that Blissey has SR instead of Aromatherapy/Heal Bell. Well, in this you guys have to help me. I want to set up SR, to counter Pokemon immune to Spikes. Not really counter... just deal damage with entry hazards. I don't want Skarmory to have zero offense. So I gave Blissey SR.
Skarmory's main job is to set up Spikes and Whirlwind Pokemon that tried to set up on me. However, it they do, I would set up maybe 2 layers before Whirlwinding them away, to fool that I am going to set up 3 layers of Spikes. Basically that gave me free turns to set up Spikes. Roost to heal off the damage when I came in and got hit by SR as well as received damage.
Blissey's job is to set up SR and to take Special hits for Skarmory. I chose Flamethower over Ice Beam as if the opponent got burned and got their attack halved, I am able to survive even a Superpower/Brick Break from a Non-banded Scizor.

Cresselia (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Spd / 252 SAtk
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Reflect
- Moonlight
- Ice Beam
- Psychic
I set up Reflect first turn. Then, depending on the Pokemon the opponent is using, I use Ice Beam/Psychic. Sometimes I use Moonlight after Reflect if I know that the opponent's Pokemon is choiced in some way, and see what moves they locked themselves in. Random side-note: Does Cresselia actually have hands?

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 164 HP / 168 Atk / 176 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Thunder Wave
- Iron Head
- Fire Punch
Sub/TW on the first turn, depending on the Pokemon. Pretty straightfoward. By the way, I've been thinking of erplacing Fire Punch to other Punches as I often have a problem with Gyarados when I'm left with Jirachi.

EDITS:
This is the place where I will post changes after people have rated my team.

Zachattach9
Changed Machamp into Lead Starmie:
Starmie @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Trick
- Rapid Spin
- Ice Beam
- Hydro Pump

SandslashPWNS
Changed Jirachi's and Swampert's set:
Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 Spe
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Wish
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic

Swampert @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spe)
- Stealth Rock
- Ice Beam
- Earthquake
- Roar

Replaced Cresselia with Rotom-H:
Rotom-H @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SpD
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Discharge
- Will-O-Wisp

Thanks for those suggestions!
Update: Currently with these changes, my team works better than before.

Update:Threat List
These are the Pokemon I have problems with (will update as I play):

If Celebi is the defensive type which carries TW and Recover, I'm screwed. Swampert's Ice Beam is not going to do much - Starmie can't OHKO it, even after SR. Skarmory's Brave Bird can't even do half after being burned. Once these 3 Pokemons took Celebi to low health, Celebi can just Recover.

Infernape can pretty much sweep my team if it carries Grass Knot. Thus I'm deciding to use a Gyarados but don't know what to replace. However if I still use Cresselia, I have a Mixape counter :(

ur gonna get called a noob for using skarmblisscress. yes, your team is very defensive as you probably were going for, but two things you need on this team are speed and the use of toxic. You need to get toxic on blissey right away. Scarf tyranitar wrecks this team. mixape ruins your skarmbliss combo, and stallbreaker gliscor really hinders your team. for these, i have 2 solutions. first, your swampert needs to go. I reccomend this extremely wierd set for infernape.

Infernape (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 112 Atk / 192 Spd / 204 SAtk
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Close Combat
- U-Turn
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]

this set is designed to take care of your biggest threats your team carries. HP ice OHKO's flygon and OHKO's stallbreaker gliscor after SR damage. Close combat OHKO's heatran after rocks, and does a decent chunk to mixape. u-turn is there just so you can get out of there with an unfavorable matchup, and switch to one of your three walls to take the hit.

now i kind of have a problem with your lead. it's not really contributing anything to your team. soumething about skarmblisscress is that ur gonna be switching a lot, and entry hazards are going to be very annoying. which is why i reccomend this:

Starmie @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Trick
- Rapid Spin
- Ice Beam
- Hydro Pump

overall, this is a great defensive team that just needs a bit of power behind it. good job!

I take a different approach to rating your team than Zach did. Zach basically covered good key points, and I agree with most of them. I will be discussing your team as a whole. I find that your Jirachi is in the wrong team, even though you based the team around him. A different Jirachi set fits better because you have a lot of walls (Skarmory, Blissey, Cresselia). Go for this Jirachi set, as you really built the team around this set, even though you didn't know you did.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 Spe
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Wish
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic

Secondly, I recommend you change Swampert's set to the standard lead one, but not using it as a lead, thus freeing up a spot on Blissey that was previously held by Stealth Rock. Blissey can now use Toxic to help Jirachi.

Swampert @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spe)
- Stealth Rock
- Ice Beam
- Earthquake
- Roar

Finally, I suggest you use a Rotom-H, as you would like to add a Rapid Spin blocker, since seeing your Entry Hazards being blown away is not fun in the slightest. The most logical Pokemon to replace for this is Cresselia. I really don't see her usefulness here. Rotom-H actually supports your team, while Cress is just there. Try this set:

Rotom-H @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SpD
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Discharge
- Will-O-Wisp

I, too like this team, but I feel that some changes should be made. Great team and good luck.

I decided to use SkarmBliss cause:
1. I never tried it before, and I havn't seen SkarmBliss for months.
2. It might be fun testing it.
3. I need something to take Grass hits aiming at Swampert, and Blissey has beast Special Defense, so I used Blissey. But if Blissey encountered Physical sweepers and Swampert's dead or I'm saving to counter Jirachi's weakness. So I need another Pokemon with decent Defense. So I went through Team Options at Smogon for Blissey and found Skarmory, thus I used Skarmory.

I like the idea of using Starmie as lead, but I don't think I will be using the Infernape. If the opponent sent out a counter for Infernape, I have to switch and my opponent will 90% of the time predict my switch. By the way, Cresselia takes care of Infernape.

Wow I really don't know I built a team based on another Jirachi set. By the way, the reason I used Cursepert was that I want something to take care of dragon types. Ice Beam is (maybe) not going to do that much and may leave the opponent 1-5% health due to Swampert's quite low Special Attack.

Also, based on Zach's and your suggestion, I'm confused on what to use for the lead. Zach suggested Starmie while you suggested changing Swampert into Anti-lead.

Nonono. I said change Swampert's SET to the lead set, not use it as a lead. Machamp is fine by me, but Starmie can also be used. Sorry if there was confusion.

I thought Anti-lead means that the Pokemon is using a lead set but can choose whether or not to be a lead?

Anyways, I think I'm gonna try using the suggestions you guys said, except for Scarfed Infernape. Sometimes I do hate Choiced, especially when I'm left with that Pokemon ...

An Anti Lead is built to counter the metagames top used leads. And I agree with all of that Slash said, especially Rotom-H.

If you say you made changes, can you please edit them in on the first post? This makes rating it easier.

Honestly, rotom-h while seemingly easily outclassing cresscelia on this team, you lose a perfect infernape countrer. Being unable to fix your mixape weakness. To fix this, I would, as you thought add on a bulky dd gyarados where you have swampert. It still has great synergy with jirachi, and fixes up you mixape problem. It also beats celebi with recover and thunderwave via taunt.

Gyarados@leftovers
Adamant nature
156 hp/ 72 atk/ 96 def/ 184 spe
-Taunt
-Dragon dance
-Waterfall
-Bounce

This set is especially good paired with wish cm rachi and they tend to set up on each other's counters.
