Overview: With its great typeing, and great ability, jirachi has proved itself to be anamzing haxer/support pokemon in the standerd metagame. With base stats of 100 on everything, jirachi can be any type of pokemon you desire. It can be a support wall with great moves like wish, protect and toxic. Or it could be a mixed sweeper with a wide variety of moves like: thunder bolt, fire punch, grass knot, and iron head. In short, jirachi is an amazing pokemon to use in competative play.

Ability:

~Serene Grace: Double the chance of an added effect, or secondary effect on certain moves. This ability is very useful for jirachi. With a lot of moves that have added effects, this ability fits perfectly with the style that most people play when using jirachi. Using iron head increases flinch rate, body slam=parahax, fire punch=burn, and thunder bolt=parahax. Those are just a few out of the endless possibilitys of haxing effects.

COUNTERS

Jirachi has a large movepool, making it very hard to counter.

Choice Scarf sets are generally beaten by Magnezone, but Fire Punch hurts. There are many different steel resistant Pokemon, so when Jirachi gets cocky spamming Iron Head, just hope that the hax doesn’t kick in too much. Gyarados and Suicune are two Pokemon that really enjoy setting up on his realatively weak Iron Head. Remember that ScarfRachi can be rather predictable; for instance, if your Salamence uses Dragon Dance and then KOes their Infernape with Earthquake, but your opponent follows up by sending in Jirachi, what do you think they might be planning?

Substitute Calm Mind Jirachi is beaten by either Tyranitar or Swampert, depending on its choice of coverage moves. Choice Band Scizor can comfortably come in and use U-turn, making Jirachi more vulnerable to the Pokemon you send in next, such as a Choice Band / Scarf Flygon. SubCM Jirachi is a big reason that many stall teams carry Perish Song Celebi, aside from last Pokemon stat-uppers, but beware of the occasional Signal Beam. Blissey is not a counter to this set, due to his ability to make 101 HP Substitutes. Depending on the coverage moves, Zapdos and Skarmory can Roar / Whirlwind Jirachi out of the playing field, but its worth noting that this is only a temporary solution. Snorlax can take a few hits, and retaliate with Earthquake or Fire Punch. If you don’t pack anything faster than Jirachi, expect this thing to give you problems.

Magnezone and Heatran are complete stops to most of Jirachi’s attempts at a mixed attacking set.

Spikes are very effective at limiting defensive Jirachi. Pound on its 2 weaknesses that are both to common types, fire and ground.

Any other sets you might face are generally going to be stopped by Pokemon that are already mentioned. Choice Scarf, Substitute CM, and defensive are going to be the most common Jirachi, though, with the occasional mixed attacker or hax abuser.

Figuring out Jirachi’s moveset is instrumental in developing a plan to beat him. He isn’t a one-trick (again, pun intended) Pokemon.
