PostSubject: R4i Help!!   R4i Help!! I_icon_minitimeMon Jul 27, 2009 4:15 am

Hey for those of you who know what the R4i is, please tell me if it's worth buying in the long run and if it works good. Also I know it can play DS games and what not but what I really want one so I can play the GBA/GBC/GB games on my DSi (considering that the feature's been removed from the DSi, having the R4i with several GBA/GBC/GB games on it would be a very useful, neat, and entertaining thing) and I'm not sure if the R4i can play GBA/GBC/GB games, so please tell me if you know it can or can't.

Also I've heard that the R4i can play Videos (Movies, T.V. show episodes, etc...) and music, but again I'm not that sure so someone please tell me if it can or can't play those as well.

If it can do the above please tell me what I would need to do [I'm assuming you just drag and drop the GBA/GBC/GB Roms and the Gameboy Advance Emulator (Visual Boy Advance), but again I'm not that sure] to get it on the Micro SD card and working properly. Also if you can roughly estimate how much Music, Videos, GBA/GBC/GB games (roms), DS games (roms), etc... can fit on a 16GB Micro SD Card please tell me.

I tried looking up all this information and Google and Youtube and what I got back was Sketchy at best, so I prefer to get a personal Response from someone who knows how this stuff works, so I don't waste a good 40 or so dollars. By the way I've already downloaded the firmware but it won't show up when I open it, so do I need to have the R4i before I can make use of the firmware or is their something else I need to do (I got the firmware from www.r4ultra.com).

Anybody who has an R4i and has made effective use of it should know what I'm talking about, and anybody who's tech smart and has at least heard of the R4i should be able to at least give me a pointer or two. If you don't know at all what I'm talking about, I'd rather you just not respond (unless you are interested in what the R4i is, which I will gladly explain what I know about it). Any other tips you may know that could help me that I did not list would be GLADLY appreciated.

For the record I wasn't sure if this should go under "tech help" or "games" so I just picked games cause I felt it related to games more so than "tech help", so yeah sorry if I was wrong about that (I'm obviously not very tech/computer smart which is why I'm asking for help).

Thank you to anyone who took the time to read all of this and is willing to tell me what they know so that I can enjoy what could very well be the best thing one could ever buy for their DSi.

:)

OK, I don't have an R4i, but I had an R4. My M3i Zero is currently on its way from Hong Kong as well.

OK, on the front of media playing, if you use moonshell then you should have no problem. Just make sure to convert stuff into the right format, I think for videos it's .dng format, and music can be pretty much anything.

And, to get roms playing on the R4i, you don't need to put VBA or anything on there. Just drag and drop your roms into the directory.

So your sure that it can play GBA/GBC/GB games? That's the main reason I really want an R4i. If it can play all of those then I'm probably going to order it next time I get some money flowing in.

What is moonshell? Is it a media firmware or something?

Moonshell is a media player, the main (and basically only) one worth using on DS.

On the subject of GBA games, I'm 99% sure that it's impossible unfortunately. At least, at the moment. The only way that it might be possible is by breaking open the cart and messing with the stuff inside. I don't recommend that. I think that if you want to be able to play GBA games, you'll have to get a Slot-2 device. Problem is, the DSi doesn't have a Slot-2. :pale:

Oh, and this should be of interest to you - the R4i is confirmed to be able to pass Nintendo's new DSi update. In case you didn't know, Nintendo released a new firmware for the DS with a few updates, and it has blocked a few flashcarts from working - however the R4i seems to be working fine as seen here:
