| Before you read this, you may look at a more in depth version of this thread here.Yes, yes. We all know it. Salamence went Uber, but what exactly does this mean for the metagame? OverviewMence went Uber for two main reasons, but only one is significant for this discussion. Salamence over centralized the metagame. Teams were running the standard Dragon + Steel combo, which is why Mence and Magnezone/Heatran/Jirachi were on the same team so much. Now, thanks to the banning of Mence, teams will revert to an ancient (not really) technique, Water/Fire/Grass combo. The most common trio is the following: Celebi, Heatran, and Water type. The Water is most commonly used as Gyarados or Starmie in today's metagame. FAQ Q: Now what exactly should we expect to see a rise in usage in the new metagame? A: Things like Celebi, Breloom, Dragonite, Flygon, Starmie, Gyarados, Infernape, and Heatran (basically Pokemon that fit the aforementioned Grass/Fire/Water combo) will most definitely undergo a drastic increase in usage thanks to the Mence banning.Q: What exactly should we expect to see a drop in usage in the new metagame? A: Pokemon that were used as checks to Salamence will drop in usage, such as Weavile, Mamoswine, and most definitely Scizor. Q: What will be a potent threat in the new metagame? A: Defensively, Celebi and Vaporeon will be the most annoying Pokemon to take out now, as if they weren't difficult before. Salamence's instant power is no longer available to make quick work of the bulky Pokemon. Offensively, Infernape and Starmie can coincide together to wreak havoc among the Fire/Grass/Water combo. Q: What can fill the role of Salamence, now that he's banned? A: Nothing can replace Mence, and I repeat, nothing. Some Pokemon come pretty close, however. The lesser known Life Orb Flygon sets make good substitutes, although they severely lack the power that Mence has. As far as Stall breaking, MixApe does an amazing job at this, too, although he's extremely vulnerable to Sand, Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Life Orb Recoil, and Stealth Rock, so a good Rapid Spinner works well here. As far as Dragonite goes, don't use him as a "MixMence". If one should use him, go for for the Dragon Dance or Choice Band sets, as they supply massive damage, and are not outclassed by MixApe nor MixFlygon.

Ok, 1, I didn't get this from Smogon, I just posted it here because many people have been asking me questions about it on the chatbox. And 2, stop being a dick. | |
